Operating a Wholesale Green House
A wholesale green house is a business just like any other, and must make a profit to stay in business. Your love for plants won’t be enough to keep the doors open if you don’t make a profit. The special needs set a wholesale green house, and the way it makes its profit apart from other businesses. You should really consider these needs before starting in on your wholesale green house.
Special Needs of Your Wholesale Green House
These needs do overlap with the considerations for any business, but the wholesale green house has to deal with them in a very special way.
The first consideration for just about any business is location. This can be a particularly tricky problem for the operator of a wholesale green house, as there are some very important things to consider in the site. It would be wonderful to have that great site right in the middle of shopping row, where tens of thousands of cars would drive by daily. The problem in this is that a wholesale green house needs a lot of space. There are all the plants in the long green houses, some sort of office, and a place for all the equipment. Then after all that, you still have to have a place for the customers to park. This can quickly add up to make the central commercial property much too expensive for the green house to operate. At the same time, you don’t want to go so far out, that you have trouble getting the utilities to run your business, so looking around the edge of town is usually the best option.
This leads to a second consideration. You may need to budget for a bit more advertising, or target it better, as people won’t be driving past your store front often enough. You should think about some way of directing your customers to your location, as it may be off the beaten path just a bit.
In location, we mentioned utilities. These are a going concern for any business, but a wholesale green house has to make special considerations. There may be a need for nighttime heaters, extra watering, and grow lights, which will all run the cost of the utilities up.
These problems are not insurmountable, and should not deter you from your wholesale green house. Just consider them, and make special room for them as you plan, and you should do well.
